Cowbells are named in House House’s “Tools and Toys” feature line as “cowbells (??)” — the second entry in their escalating run of question marks, after “whiteboards (?)” and before “a big golden head (???)”.

The entire official record
Everything published as of 5 August 2026:
- Cowbells are in the game.
- They are in the same list as the walkie-talkies, megaphones and flares — items you use to stay in contact while spread out.
- House House gave them two question marks.
Nothing has been published about audible range, whether the sound obeys the same falloff, echo and muffling rules as voice, whether they can be dropped or attached to something, or whether more than one exists.
The one connection worth making, because it is grounded in a documented mechanic rather than speculation: Big Walk’s audio system is spatial. Voices “fade across distances, echo down corridors, muffle through walls.” If a cowbell produces sound in that same system, it is a way to be located by ear without speaking — which is precisely the situation House House say the game will put you in, where “you can’t hear each other, and you need to find other ways to communicate.”
Whether it actually behaves that way is unpublished. It is a cowbell in a game with a serious spatial audio system, which is a good joke either way.
