Big Walk Wiki

Big Walk hands one person the save file, takes your voice away at range, and has no matchmaking. Sort that out before you set off — the walking is the easy part.

Big Walk is a cooperative adventure for two to twelve people, released on 4 August 2026 by House House — the Melbourne studio behind Untitled Goose Game — and published by Panic. It has no single-player mode, no matchmaking, and no split screen. Everyone needs their own copy, their own screen, and their own room. Talking to each other outside the game is, in House House’s own words, ❌ NOT ALLOWED ❌ — the proximity voice system is the game, and bypassing it removes most of what makes it work.

That means the hard part of Big Walk happens before anyone loads in: who hosts, how many people are committing to the whole run, and how you all get into the same session. This site is organised around those decisions in the order you have to make them, followed by reference pages for everything in the world that House House has actually confirmed.

What you need to decide first

Three settings are chosen at launch and cannot be changed partway through a session.

Party size. The host picks a 2-player, 3-player or 4+ player version of the world, and parts of the world adapt to that choice. House House frames the number as the minimum who will be present for the whole session, not the maximum you are allowed. If two of your five can only stay for an hour, pick the 3-player world.

Who hosts. The host machine holds the only save. When the host ends the session, everyone disconnects, and nobody can continue the run without that person online again. Pick the person with the most reliable schedule and the steadiest connection — House House explicitly warns that a host running at a low frame rate causes network problems for the whole group.

Whether challenge skipping is on. Certain challenges require hearing, reading, speaking, typing, fast reactions or fine motor control. The host enables challenge skipping from the accessibility menu when starting a session, and that decision covers everyone.

How people actually hear each other

Proximity voice chat is the core system. Voices fade with distance, echo down corridors, muffle through walls, and crackle through walkie-talkies. Text chat follows exactly the same rules — it becomes unreadable at range, it is blocked by soundproof glass, and it travels through a walkie-talkie the same way speech does. House House states you can finish the entire game on text alone without missing anything.

That symmetry matters more than it sounds. It means a player without a microphone is not a second-class member of the group, and it means the puzzles that take your voice away are not “voice puzzles” — they are communication puzzles, and gesture, pointing and carried tools are the intended workarounds.

Proximity chat drops off with distance. What you carry moves the line.

Nine things you can carry

House House named the tools and toys in their own press material: walkie-talkies, laser pointers, binoculars, megaphones, flares, whiteboards, cowbells and “a big golden head (???)” — the three question marks are theirs. Backpacks are confirmed separately by the Steam achievement Big Pack (“Wear a backpack”), unlocked by 27.8% of players.

Anything beyond that list is somebody guessing. Several fan wikis publish item names that have no first-party source behind them; this site does not repeat them.

Four ways to buy it, and one catch

Crossplay covers every combination of platforms, so where you buy it does not decide who you can play with. What it does decide is how people get into your session. The Mac App Store build has no Game Center support, which means no friends list appears at all — everyone joining that host uses a join code, every single session.

Big Walk is also a day-one PlayStation Plus Essential monthly game for August 2026, claimable between 4 and 31 August. Adding it to your library inside that window keeps it for as long as your subscription stays active. There is no PS4 version, no physical release, and — per the official FAQ — no other platforms planned.

Where groups actually stop

Steam publishes global unlock rates for all 12 achievements, and they map the shape of the game better than any walkthrough. 81.5% of players have crossed the drawbridge. 34.9% have visited the map. By the chairlift it is 8.2%, by the train 4.3%, and only 0.2% have gone beyond the wall.

The gap between the first two numbers is the one worth reading. Crossing the drawbridge ends the opening stretch; visiting the map is the first thing that requires the whole group to travel somewhere together. Two thirds of players never do it — and in a game where the save lives on one person’s machine and there is no matchmaking to replace a missing friend, that drop-off is usually a scheduling problem rather than a difficulty one.
