Big Walk FAQ

Short answers to the questions people actually search for, with links to the full explanation where there is one.

Everything below is sourced from House House’s own FAQ, the store listings, or the game’s achievement data. Where an answer needs more than a paragraph, there is a link to the page that has it.

Buying it

Is Big Walk on Xbox? No, and none is planned. The official FAQ lists Windows and Mac (via Steam and the Mac App Store), PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, then states: “No other platforms are planned at this time.” That also rules out Game Pass, since the game does not exist on Xbox at all.

Is there a PS4 version? No. PlayStation 5 only. There is also no physical release on any platform — all four versions are digital.

How much does it cost? $19.99 base on Steam, discounted to $14.99 at launch. $14.99 on Nintendo Switch 2 until 18 August 2026. On PlayStation 5 it is free with PlayStation Plus until 31 August 2026.

Is Big Walk free? Only on PS5, and only if you subscribe to PlayStation Plus and claim it before 31 August 2026. It stays in your library while your subscription is active. See PS Plus.

Do all of us need to buy it? Yes. There is no split screen, no shared-screen mode and no trial. Everyone in a session needs their own copy and their own screen. Crossplay means you can be on different platforms.

Playing together

How many players? Two to twelve. The host picks a 2-player, 3-player or 4+ player version of the world at launch and parts of the world adapt to that choice — treat the number as the minimum who will be there the whole time, not the maximum. See player count.

Is there a single-player mode? No. House House’s answer is “No, sorry.” You can start a session alone and walk around a little, but “you won’t get very far.” Everything in the game is designed for cooperative multiplayer.

Is there matchmaking? No, deliberately. Big Walk is built to be played with the same group across multiple sessions, so House House chose not to throw strangers together. You organise it yourself with people you know.

Does Big Walk have crossplay? Yes, across all four platforms in every combination. See crossplay.

Is there split screen or couch co-op? No. Everyone needs their own screen. House House additionally advise against playing in the same physical room, because you would hear each other outside the game’s proximity voice system — which breaks the puzzles built on not being able to.

Who saves the progress? The host, automatically, on their machine. Everyone disconnects when the host stops the session, and you cannot continue without that same person hosting again. Pick your host on availability. See hosting and saves.

How do I join my friend’s game? If you are friends on the same platform, their active session appears automatically in a friend-games menu. Otherwise use the join code, which is generated fresh each session and lives in the corner of the host menu — or under Session Details once play has started. The Mac App Store version has no friends list at all, so those groups always use codes. See join code.

Talking

Can I play without a microphone? Yes, completely. Text chat has the same features and the same intentional limitations as voice — it fades at range, it is blocked by soundproof glass, and it travels through walkie-talkies. House House confirm you can finish the whole game that way “without missing out.”

Can we use Discord instead? No — and this is a mechanical restriction, not a rule of etiquette. House House’s wording is “❌ NOT ALLOWED ❌”. Nothing enforces it, but the game builds situations where you cannot hear each other and have to find another way to communicate, and running an external voice channel removes those obstacles before you reach them. Their comparison: “like playing charades but everybody gets to talk.”

How does the voice chat work? Voices fade across distances, echo down corridors, muffle through walls, and crackle through walkie-talkies. Carried tools change where those lines sit. See proximity chat.

Can we play in the same room? Not the same room, no — you would hear each other in person. Different rooms in the same house with separate devices works normally.

The game itself

Does Big Walk have an ending? Yes. It is a hand-crafted cooperative adventure with a beginning, a middle and an end, meant to be played start to finish with a group. It also works as a place to hang out afterwards.

How long is it? House House have not published a length. The Steam unlock rates give a rough shape: 81.5% of players have crossed the drawbridge, 34.9% have visited the map, 4.3% have ridden the train, and 0.2% have gone beyond the wall.

How many achievements are there? Twelve, two of them hidden. Full list with global unlock rates on the achievements page.

Can I rebind the controls? Yes — Settings > Rebinding, and everything is rebindable. Mouse and keyboard, most controllers, and Switch 2 mouse mode are all supported.

Does it help with motion sickness? There are several Motion Reduction Overlays (Settings > General) built specifically for this, plus an adjustable field of view (Settings > Graphics). House House recommend trying the overlays first. See motion sickness.

What accessibility features are there? Skip any challenge, rebind all controls, multiple crosshair styles, hold-or-toggle for some controls, adjustable FOV, motion reduction overlays, and characters can carry each other. Challenge skipping is enabled by the host at session start. See accessibility.

Who made it? House House, a Melbourne studio founded in 2014, previously responsible for Push Me Pull You (2016) and Untitled Goose Game (2019). Published by Panic. The environment draws on Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria, Australia.
