Big Walk Crossplay

Every combination of Steam, Mac App Store, PS5 and Switch 2 works in the same session. What differs between platforms is how people get in, not whether they can.

Big Walk has crossplay across every platform it exists on. House House’s answer to whether players on different systems can play together is a single word — “Sure!” — followed by confirmation that crossplay support means players on different systems can play together. Steam is also listed with the Cross-Platform Multiplayer category on its store page.

For a game with no matchmaking and no single-player, this matters more than usual: your group is fixed, so anything that fragments it by platform would fragment it permanently.

What crossplay covers

All four ways to own the game share one session:

  • Steam on Windows
  • Steam on macOS
  • Mac App Store
  • PlayStation 5
  • Nintendo Switch 2

Any host, any joiners, in any combination. A Switch 2 host can run a session for four people on Steam and one on PS5.

There is no separate crossplay toggle documented, no cross-platform party system to set up, and no published restriction on which platform can host.

What differs by platform

Three things vary, and none of them affect who can play with whom.

How you find the session. On Steam, PSN and Nintendo Switch Online, the host’s active game appears in a friends-games list if you are friends there. The Mac App Store build has no Game Center support, so it shows no friends list at all — those players use a join code. Since the join code works across every platform, this is an inconvenience rather than a barrier.

Whether you need a subscription. Nintendo Switch 2 requires Nintendo Switch Online for online play and cloud saves. PlayStation 5 requires PlayStation Plus for online play — which is also how the game is free this month. Steam and the Mac App Store require nothing.

What you play with. All platforms support controllers. Steam and Mac also support mouse and keyboard. Switch 2 additionally supports its mouse mode, which House House explicitly built for.

Buying decisions that follow

Since crossplay is universal, “which version should I buy” reduces to price, input and subscription rather than social lock-in:

  • Already have PS Plus? Claim it free between 4 and 31 August 2026. Nothing else in this list beats free.
  • Want mouse and keyboard? Steam, or Switch 2 with its mouse mode.
  • Want the friends list to just work? Any version except the Mac App Store build.
  • Don’t want a subscription at all? Steam or the Mac App Store — Switch 2 and PS5 both gate online play behind one, and this game is online-only.

One thing crossplay does not solve: everyone still needs their own copy and their own screen. There is no split screen, and House House recommend against playing in the same room because you would hear each other outside the game’s voice system.

Language support across platforms

Big Walk ships localised in fourteen languages, and the set is consistent across storefronts. Steam lists English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Traditional Chinese and Turkish. The Nintendo eShop lists thirteen of the same.

For a mixed-language group this matters more than usual. Big Walk’s puzzles are built out of talking to each other, and text chat carries the same weight as voice — so a player reading the interface in Japanese while typing to a friend reading it in Polish is a supported configuration rather than an accident.

The game name itself is not localised. Steam’s store record returns “Big Walk” as the product name in all fourteen language versions, so there is no separate local title to search for.

What crossplay does not smooth over

Three differences survive crossplay, and all three are worth settling before your first session:

Subscription cost. A Switch 2 player pays for Nintendo Switch Online and a PS5 player pays for PlayStation Plus, on top of the game. Steam and Mac App Store players pay neither. In an online-only game, those subscriptions are not optional extras — without one, that person cannot join at all.

Joining friction. Everyone can join everyone, but only platform-native friendships produce an automatic entry in the friends-games list. A cross-platform group will be using join codes as the default, which means the host reads out a fresh code at the start of every session.

Who hosts. There is no published performance or feature advantage to hosting on a particular platform. The host’s real constraints are availability and frame rate, and the one platform-specific consideration is that a Mac App Store host removes the friends list for everyone.

One session, four storefronts

The simplest way to picture it: a host on Nintendo Switch 2 can be running a session where two players are on Steam for Windows, one is on the Mac App Store, and one is on PS5, all at once, all talking through the same proximity voice system. Nothing about the game changes based on that mix.

The only thing you cannot mix is versions of the game itself — everyone plays whatever the current release is on their platform, and there is no legacy or cross-generation split to worry about, since Big Walk launched everywhere simultaneously on 4 August 2026.
